Description
Gopal Das “Kalapremi” is Nepal’s legendary Ceramist, Sculptor, and Visual Artist.
Widely popular in countries like Nepal, Pakistan, China, Denmark, Austria, and Korea, his work stands out because of its unique style.
This one-of-a kind Tea/coffee cup is hand-carved by the so-called Kurinuki technique. A lump of clay is first hollowed out and then textured by cutting and tearing. Following a first firing at 980 degrees centigrade and enameling, the ceramic is raised to 1060 degrees centigrade. At this stage, the incandescent part is taken out of the oven and immersed in wood chips in order to cause a reductive atmosphere and thus develop metallic effects.
